Purpose

This five-day in-service training programme equips senior civil servants with the knowledge, skills, and strategic perspective to harness Artificial Intelligence (AI) for governance and public service delivery.

The course combines conceptual clarity, sectoral applications, practical demonstrations, and discussions on implementation challenges in the government ecosystem.

Senior officers with interest/experience in digital governance, emerging technologies, or data-driven decision-making, and officers involved in institutional capacity-building.

  • Core concepts and definitions; role of data in decision-making and public policy
  • Data types, data sources, and collection methods in government
  • How analytics can improve service delivery; examples from Indian and international contexts
Day 2
Theme: Unsupervised Models
Clustering + RL
  • Clustering for pattern discovery; governance applications
  • Interpreting clustering results for policy formulation
  • Reinforcement learning: agents, environments, reward mechanisms
  • Potential applications in dynamic decision-making systems for public administration
Day 3
Theme: Computer Vision
Vision for field ops
  • Image processing fundamentals and feature extraction
  • Governance use cases: traffic monitoring, infrastructure audits, environmental monitoring
  • Hands-on exercise: object detection (detect, classify, track objects)
  • Live demonstration of practical applications in field operations
Day 4
Theme: LLMs, Generative AI & NLP
Language + GenAI
  • NLP: text processing, sentiment analysis, document summarisation
  • Use cases: policy analysis, grievance redressal, e-governance
  • Generative AI & LLMs: drafting, translation, citizen interaction
  • Sovereign AI ecosystem: indigenous AI, data sovereignty, and national security considerations

Theme: Deployment & Scaling Up
Operationalisation
  • Challenges in integrating AI into government workflows
  • Ethical, legal, and societal considerations
