Objectives of the Center for North East Studies (NES) may be as follows:

1. To understand the culture, diversity, traditions of the North-Eastern Region.
2. To protect and promote strategic interest of the country.
3. To understand the  prospects, problems and potentials of North-Eastern Region.
4. To change the perception of North-Eastern Region from isolated and remote territory to future economic growth engine of the country.
5. To evolve upon  future economic and international commercial potential of North-Eastern  Region.
6. To ensure integration and involvement of civil servants from all the states of the North- Eastern Region in  the process of nation building.
